WWW.LIONSCLUBHKP.ORG.HK.

LIONS CLUB OF HONG KONG (PACIFIC)

The Lions Club of Hong Kong (Pacific) was chartered on January 16th 1990 with 26 charter members and became the 38th club of the Lions Clubs International District 303 Hong Kong & Macau, China. Our club is a mixed club with both male and female members. Charter President Lion Charles Koo is a past president (1988-89) of the Lions Club of Lion Rock. Charter members of our club included solicitor, barrister, accountant, banker, entrepreneur, and senior executives of major corporations. Current memberships of the club also comprise executives from telecommunication and IT industry, logistics, insurance and finance consultant, medical and health management, etc. Our club was founded with the vision to serve local youths who are the pillars of the society. Our mission is to fill up the gaps left by the inadequacy of youth service funding and services provided by the government and local agencies. Over the years, our service has also covered hospice care and youth correctional services with more emphasis on the elderly, single parent families and youth services. In 2012 we were honoured to become a Partner Organisation of the World Council of Peoples for the United Nations to uphold varies humanitarian projects of the United Nations.

Our club was granted the status of a charitable organization (chapter 88) by the Inland Revenue Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government in 1991 which denoted that all donations to our club are eligible for tax benefits. Our approved charitable organization certificate number is IRD Ref.91/4031. All donations will be used to fund various social and community projects in Hong Kong and Mainland China. For donations to our club, please contact our Club Treasurer Lion Edwin Yeung at ey@edwinyeungcpa.com.

In 1991, our club became the first Lions Club on earth to erect the first Lions Pagoda in Mainland China where no Lions Club exists. Our Lions Pagoda in Chui Yang city of Guangdong Province provided amenity facilities to local residents and has become a popular tourism spot. As a gesture to provide day care and nursery education service for the low income families in the eastern Hong Kong Island, we sponsored the establishment of a nursery school under the management of Hong Kong Caritas in 1997 with funds raised by our members. This nursery school provides full-time day care and education service for 150 children from low income families in the Siu Sai Wan area of the Chai Wan District. The nursery school provides pre-school education to young kids and at the same time alleviated their parents’ burden in caring them at home so they could take up full time jobs and engage in various social activities. The Caritas Lions Club of Hong Kong (Pacific) Nursery School is celebrating its 24th anniversary this year.

In the past 30 years, our club has spent millions of dollars on hundreds of social and community service projects. Beneficiaries from such projects included young and elderly persons from various social classes and different age groups in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Our members will continue to uphold the Lions spirit with the care and concern for the community and pledge our utmost participation and dedication in building a harmonious and happy community under the motto of Lions Clubs International – “WE SERVE”.

We also sponsored the establishment of a Leo Club in 2003 with young adults who utilized their leisure time to organize multi-natured social and community services. Member of the Leo Club of Hong Kong (Pacific) comprised of students from local high schools and universities to working young adults under the age of 28. Leo club provides good opportunities for youths in gaining organization methodology and project management experience as well as enhancing their social skills and networking.
